Who am I?

I was born 38 years ago in a village near Munich, Germany. I am privileged enough to have parents who looked beyond the horizon of that village. When I was two years old we moved to Cairo, where we stayed for two years. After a short spell back in Germany we moved to South Africa, where I spent a total of 18 years. I returned to Germany, a stranger in "my own country", when I was 25. I don't really know how I managed to get "stuck" here, it just happened. Perhaps my soul needed the adversities encountered here. I don't really fit in here anymore, and no matter how I have sometimes tried to accept the situation, nothing has changed that. Don't misunderstand me, I am not unhappy. Freedom and happiness are a state of mind, not something you find in a geographical location. Having made that statement, I still can't help longing for more sunshine and more smiles most days of most weeks.

Happiness is......

What else is there to tell about me? Some plain facts: I am no longer married, I don't have children. For the rest, read my pages and you will get a very good insight into who I am, where I have been, and maybe even where I am going. I deliberately included some very early writing on these pages. We are all the sum of our experiences. Also, sometimes it is nice to look back and see what moved us way back when. Often we'll discover that it hasn't changed that much over the years.

sunshine and warm smiles....

Discovering the internet last summer is something I'd put right near the top of my list of "good things that have happened to me"! I have met some wonderful people from all over the globe on the net. Okay, I admit, there are a lot of (to me) weird people out there too, but hey, it reflects life. The net is like a hyperactive, condensed version of the world we live in. And I admit to being addicted! By what other means could I have "the world at my fingertips" so easily. ICQ, thank you! And to my favourite chatting partners (you know who you are!), thanks for being out there, for allowing me to walk a piece of the road with you. You're special people!!

Alabama

A slightly exotic version of me....

PS Because everyone keeps asking: The nick "Alabama" has nothing at all to do with the State of Alabama (USA), a lot to do with "Sweet Home Alabama" (Lynyrd Skynyrd) and a little to do with "Alabama Song" (The Doors). *s*
